Transferable Skills Workshops

Film Lauderdale offers an innovative transferable skills workforce training program that aims to train like-industries in Broward County’s small business community on how their skill set can transfer into the film industry. These workshops are free for Broward County residents.

Construction to Craftsman
In collaboration with IATSE Local 477, local construction laborers learned how their skills could be transferred to the film industry through prop making and shop craftsman techniques.

Accountant to Production Accountant
Local IATSE 161 member Ruby Philippa, who has over a decade of experience working as a Production Accountant, instructed the workshop for Accountants interested in learning how to transfer their skills to the film and TV industry.

Production Assistant (PA) Training Camp
Hosted by Brandstar and instructed by film professor Josh Ellis, 18 Broward County residents were taught how to excel as a PA on a busy film set over a two-day workshop.

Tailor & Seamstress to Tailor & Seamstress on Set
In collaboration with IATSE Local 477 and instructed by Colleen Chabot, local tailors and seamstresses were taught how to transfer their skills to the film and TV industry, working in the fast-paced environment of a production set.

Restaurant Caterers to Caterers on Set 
Hosted by Film Lauderdale and Jessica Grenat, Owner of Red Chair, local restaurant owners and caterers learned about how their business can be of service to the screen industry. They learned the unique needs of on-set catering, navigating production schedules and dietary needs, tips for working with producers, directors, and crew.

Makeup Artists to Makeup Artists for Film & TV
Instructed by industry makeup artist, Rory Lee, local makeup artists received an in-depth look at what it takes to work as a makeup artist in film and TV. From must-have products for HD and 4K, to on-set etiquette and on-camera techniques, it was an enriching workshop packed with insider knowledge, live demos, and tips that aren’t often shared.
