Film Lauderdale Announces New Local Emerging Filmmakers Grant Program

Broward County, FL – Film Lauderdale is launching a new emerging filmmakers grant program for Broward County resident content creators. The program seeks to provide a funding resource to Broward County-based filmmakers to produce individual projects, with eligibility based on a set of Broward County-centric criteria.

“Our local filmmakers have been asking for a grant program to help get their projects made,” said Sandy Lighterman, Film Commissioner of Film Lauderdale. “These grants will be an essential launching pad for Broward residents who are just getting their careers off the ground. This initiative is aimed at nurturing our local content creators and helping them with funding that’s needed to jumpstart their projects.”

“Broward County is committed to growing the film and television industry, not only through attracting multimillion-dollar studio projects, but by supporting our diverse local filmmaking community to bring their projects to the screen,” said Broward County Commissioner Steve Geller.

“This program is directly in step with our goals to develop the local film industry workforce,” said Director of the Office of Economic and Small Business Development, Sandy-Michael McDonald. “By offering a support mechanism to elevate these locally produced projects, we can further build upon Broward County’s network of skilled crew, talent, and support vendors.”

Film Lauderdale’s Emerging Filmmakers Grant Program will require $10,000 in matching funds and proof of the funds must be provided with the initial application submission. The $10,000 grant will be distributed in four quarterly payments to an approved applicant (subject to appropriation each fiscal year) after meeting all required criteria in phases of pre-production, production, post-production, and completed project.

The applicant must be a practicing professional Broward County resident who in the past three years has created a body of original content. Other eligibility requirements apply. The program is set to launch after November 1, 2023.
